Whilst waiting for the funding to come through for the ground source heating system, the Trustees, in association with our contractor Anglia Heating, have set aside enough funding to install the hot and cold water system. This will enable much of the plant room work to be carried out so that when the funds are in place for the ground source heat pump and installation of the bore holes most of the other work in in place and ready to be connected to. We have also completed all electrical works as far as possible and completed the fire alarm installation.
Each year there is a Christmas Tree festival in St Mary’s Church in Stalham. For the past few years the Poppy Centre has provided a tree. Many of the trees on display are from local groups, businesses and the schools, promoting who and what they are. This year we wanted to do something different – but could not think what to do. Until a dress was donated to the Poppy Centre charity shop. It was bright green and with a few lights and a borrowed mannikin we had a unique offering. In fact it was so unique that Radio Norfolk featured it as part of their Sunday morning programme Treasure Quest.
Progress has been slow due to lack of funds. Since July the floor coverings have been completed, the plant room has been prepared ready for the ground source heat pump installation, the gshp ground survey has been completed and the remaining sanitary ware has been installed. Everything is set ready for when our funding for the gshp comes through. Meanwhile, work continues to finishing off all areas in respect of carpentry and painting as funds permit.
In the past few weeks progress has been steady. We now have all the floor coverings to the first floor and the ground floor is in progress.
The toilets, showers and changing rooms are now almost complete and the skirting and architrave is now being fitted to all areas.
We have also had the sign fitted to the outside of the building.
Today our Charity Shop, at 76 – 82 Stalham High Street has now raised in excess of £100,000 profit towards the Poppy Centre building project. This is a huge achievement is due to the fact that the shop is run entirely by volunteers. A massive thank you to all of them.
Work continues to the toilet and changing room areas. Wall panelling has now been installed to the male and female toilet areas, the toilet frames and vanity units have been installed and we now even have sinks! It is really starting to look like a finished building. All the plastering has now been completed to both ground and first floor. Decoration continues, work will continues to all the toilet and changing room areas. The windows and front door are scheduled to be installed at the end of February. We are still on course to open for Easter.
