WOW and THANK YOU
On Friday 7th December 2018, Stalham Poppy Centre hosted its first quiz night in the new centre as ongoing fund raising for the building and to ‘showcase’ the facilities. It was a fantastic evening, great atmosphere and a massive thank you to Phil Hanton and Glyn Wilson for organising the quiz and to Ray Woolston for the refreshments with the help of Liz Jackson and Mary Edmonds. We had 16 teams, over 90 people and a great time was had by all. PLUS we made £463.00 for the centre. Thank you to everyone who came and was involved in such a successful evening.
The gym continue to thrive in their new home – see flyer below.
Stalham Community Gym moved into the centre in May, their sessions and membership are steadily increasing and they have now introduced Yoga and Pilates as part of their membership. On showing a prospective new user around the building it was commented that their equipment and facilities were equal to if not better than other local facilities. See their ad in Stalham News for more information.
1st Stalham Sea Scout Group and Stalham Girl Guide Group also started using the centre for the Autumn term. They love their new facilities and home. Stalham Youth Football Club are also now using the facilities for their weekend matches. These groups lost their home facilities on Stalham Recreation Ground back in 2008 – it is good for them to be back.
We have also had ‘Joy of Cooking’ use the kitchen facilities to teach cookery classes and various one off bookings – everyone is impressed with the facilities.
It became necessary for the Poppy Centre Trust to change its charitable status from an Unincorporated Trust to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This took place on 1 August 2018.
Stalham Community Gym have moved into the centre and their sessions are now up and running.
Monday: 7 am – 12 noon, Tuesday: 5 – 8 pm, Thursday: 7 am – 12 noon & 5 – 8 pm, Sunday: 9 am – 12 noon.
Contact Paul O’Connell on 07910 748111 their fitness professional to book an appointment to join or pop in for a ‘look see’. First month membership FREE.
At last, after more than 14 years since the project began, Stalham Poppy Centre is open. Stalham Community Gym have moved their equipment in and have started their sessions from their new home. We are having a ‘soft’ opening whilst we sort out the logistics of having a multi user building for the community. We are planning a formal opening for the Autumn of 2018. Anyone interested in making a booking can telephone 07436908824 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Back in August The Poppy Centre Trust applied to the Tesco Bags of Help for a grant towards stage curtains for the main hall, blinds and curtains for other areas and funds towards the white goods for the kitchen. During September and October the community of Stalham supported our application by putting tokens into the instore cannister in the Stalham store. We have received news that we were successful and been awarded £3793.00. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
