£10,000 anonymous donation received

We are delighted to announce that we have received an anonymous donation of £10,000 towards the ground source heating system.  With other income and donations set aside we now have £34,000 towards our £80,000 target.  This leaves us with £46,000 to raise so we can instruct the contractor to install the bore holes and ground source heat pump.  This will complete the heating installation and enable us to get the building signed off ready for opening.  We really are nearly there!

£61,000 target left towards the ground source heating system

As we are now saving specifically for the ground source heat pump and bore holes, which will cost £80,000 to complete the heating system to the building.  We have now set aside £19,000 towards this target from the income from the shop and donations received.  This leaves us with a target of £61,000 still to raise.

Change of tactics

Back in 2013 the Poppy Centre Trust was pledged some funding towards the project.  The Trustees decided to set this aside against the ground source heat pump and installation of the bore holes.  Income from the Charity shop would continue to be used to keep the completion of the interior of the building going whilst waiting for this to be released.  However, due to unforeseen complications with the pledge this has not been forthcoming.  Therefore, in July 2016 the Trustees agreed that income from the shop needed to be set aside towards the £80,000 required to complete the ground source heating system so that the community could see that progress was being made.  This is turn has slowed down the final works required to completing the interior of the building.  Work is continuing, but at a slower pace.

Door furniture is installed

We have now got sufficient funds to purchase all the door handles, locks, kick plates, closers etc.  Work has commenced to install all of these to over 50 doors!  Our external steel door and shutter contractor, Cooks, have been back to install two new external doors to the side staircase and to attend to snagging to the existing shutters and doors.  Work continues at a steady pace, however, the lack of funds other than from the income from the Charity shop is holding back completion of the building.

Landscaping complete

The main building contractor came back in October to take down the fencing, and to complete landscaping to the front of the building and the tarmac to the paths.  In addition, as part of the Poppy Centre’s commitment to make good Recreation Road and the Car Park following construction traffic over the past few years, this work has now also been completed.  Rec Road was repaired during January and the tar chippings to the car park have now been laid including making good the pot holes.

Flushing loos!

The water system has now been commissioned and is up and running – we have flushing loos and water to all taps – it feels like this is a major step forward.  We have also part fitted the kitchen, which is a kitchen of two halves, a stainless steel (semi commercial) side and a wood effect side for serving.
